Hot N Cool Yoga Club - Getting started with Hot N' Cool Yoga

So you want to get started with Hot N' Cool Yoga.

Here are some things that you will need to know.

At Home

Hydrate - This is one of the most important things to remember. Although you may be bringing water to class, keep in mind that it can take a few minutes for your body to absorb any water that you may consume. As such, it's best to come to class hydrated, so you're ready to sweat! As well, it's best to drink pure water, rather than soda or coffee; drinking an impure beverage will cause your body to use up water, rather than increase its supply.
Energise - It's best to arrive to your yoga class energised, ready to exercise. If you're tired, you're not going to get the most out of your work-out.
Arrive with an empty stomach - Although it is important that you have the energy to exercise, it can be difficult to do so when you're full. It is suggested that you not eat anything heavier than a small piece of fruit, or a small amount of yoghurt, within two or three hours of your class.
Dress appropriately - When arriving at a class, be sure you are wearing your yoga attire, or can change into it quickly. It's best to wear something light and tight-fitted; Ladies are encouraged to wear sports bras. Avoid sweats, anything with long sleeves, pants and heavy shirts. The club can be very hot, so you want your clothing to breathe.

At the Club

Arrive Early - Be sure to arrive a few minutes before the class is scheduled to start. You don't want to rush into the class, or be late for one. This is especially true if you're new to the club, as you will need to take a few minutes to fill out a waiver and some registration forms.
For Kids Classes, parents must arrive with their children, in order to fill out the registration forms and waiver.
Water - Even though you're arriving to class hydrated, you will quickly use up the water your body has saved up. This is especially true in a hot class. We suggest bringing at least a 1-litre bottle of water to class. Again, it's important that you bring water, and not another beverage such as soda or coffee. We sell water at the yoga club, so it's OK if you forget yours. Be sure to bring a durable container. Do not bring glass containers to class.
Mat - We rent yoga mats at the club, but it's best if you bring your own. The ideal type of mat is a "sticky mat," which is about 0.6cm (1/4 inch) thick.
Towels - Be sure to bring two bath-sized towels to your class. You are going to work up a sweat, so it's best to have something to wipe off with.

After the Class

Showers - We provide shower facilities at the yoga club, so bring whatever you need to get clean.
Electrolytes - Be sure to drink lots of water, and consume ample amounts of electrolytes. Electrolytes can be found in many sports drinks, but are also found in salty foods. Sports drinks tend to contain a lot of sugar, so they might not be the best choice if you are keeping an eye on your weight.
It's very important to keep a healthy electrolyte balance in your body. Electrolytes help your body to hydrate itself, as well as being essential to healthy muscle and nerve function. Don't over-do it, though; electrolytes need to be kept in a careful balance.
Your Next Class - It's best not to over-exert your body, so schedule your next class for a time when your body is rested; don't push yourself too hard.
